Again for simplicity purposes, the chart omits the R8C/1x series, and only covers the 2x and 3x line-up. The left side of this chart shows the different groups within the 2x series. Flash options range from 2KB to 128KB. This series also includes general purpose and application-focus devices (those highlighted in green). In addition, the products highlighted in yellow are tuned for very cost sensitive applications. On the right hand-side of the chart is the R8C/3x Series. While these devices maintain backward compatibility with R8C/2x, they incorporate major enhancements making them a great complement to the R8C family. Key features of the 3x series include: expanded operating voltages ranging from 1.8V to 5.5V, added performance through the Data Transfer Controller, co-processing capabilities with its Data Flash Background Operation, and larger RAM to ROM ratio. Finally, highlighted in blue are those products offering options in automotive grade. The 3x series adds new products with CAN capability in 64- and 80-pin packages initially targeted for such applications.
