Here is a comparison summary of R8C/Lx characteristics. In general, all of the groups are very similar. Therefore, only some of the Lx key features and differences will be highlighted within the line-up. The Lx Series supports a wide operating voltage from 1.8V to 5.5V. The maximum operating frequency is 20MHz which is consistent with the rest of the R8C series. In contrast to the R8C/3x, each Lx device, has Data Flash as an option. This allows users to select the appropriate device according to the system requirements. Obviously the key feature and differentiator of the Lx is the LCD controller. The L35x group is the lowest end in the series supporting a maximum of 96 LCD segments. The largest device (L3xA) can support up to 56 segments and 8 common lines. Since four of these pins are multiplexed, the maximum number of LCD segments that can be controlled by this device is 416, which is generated from a 52x8 configuration. The one other difference amongst the groups is the number of A/D inputs. The L35x offers 12 inputs, L38x has 16, and the L3Ax includes 20.
