This slide shows the STW81200 performance compared to a very similar device from one of ST’s competitors. The measurement parameters in the chart at the bottom were made for an apples-to-apples comparison, highlighting the same reference frequencies, reference clock, the same PFD frequencies and etc. When doing that comparison, the STW81200’s phase noise is typically 5 to 8 dB better depending on the offset. As can be seen, ST’s 10 kHz offset at -108 dBc/Hz and 1 MHz offset at -137 dBc/Hz are quite an improvement over the competition. Also notice that ST has good spurious performance, with a couple of spurs which are lower than the many spurs of the competitor’s device, about -80 dB vs. -60 dB or worse.
