One area on which ST is focusing is micro and millimeter wave applications. BiCMOS, a SiGe technology, is an effective way to combine high performance RF, high frequency support, and higher integration. With these technologies it is possible to achieve a very wide band design. This allows the user to achieve a greater value, particularly when replacing gallium arsenide devices. Considerable cost-savings can be realized, with lower initial cost and lower cost in production, by designing in a BiCMOS process instead of something more expensive like gallium arsenide. This is certainly an area designers want to investigate if they are working in microwave or millimeter wave applications and require ASIC or COT support.
