The flash modules implemented on the MPC5500 family are the 3rd generation of automotive flash that has been used, tested, and improved providing one of most stable and robust flash solutions in the industry. The flash has the ECC feature, to reduce the risk of incorrect values in flash arrays, improving overall quality and reliability of the product. It is capable of 100,000 write/erase cycles with 20 years data retention when operating at -40 to 125°C. One of the big advantages of the NXP flash module implemented on the MPC5500 family is the virtual single cycle access to flash memory, called “fetch accelerator”, up to a maximum frequency of 266MHz. This performs in a similar way to a branch predictor and fetches ahead of time data from contiguous memory blocks. In addition, the MPC5500 have the Fast Flash programming feature, which takes only 200ms to program each page.
