This page illustrates the compatibility that exists between the current MPC5500 family. NXP’s platform approach means that the family shares one single architecture, with one instruction set, so code can be re-used, and consistent memory maps, interrupt vectors, and DMA channels. This approach enables tool suites to support the entire range of families. From a hardware standpoint, it is clear that there are options to scale both up and down the family while not having to re-design board footprints as there are pin compatible options available.
