This slide shows a comparison of transient response characteristics, also known as high speed back-up. The CPU installed in a PC has an operating limit voltage. When the input voltage falls below it, a PC malfunction, such as freezing can occur. Generating quasi-CPU signals by a functional generator like in the circuit above, transient response characteristics are compared. If load current flows to the CPU, the charge supply from the regulator is too late and the voltage of the supply line rapidly drops. In order to prevent this, electrolytic capacitors are often used in the power supply line. As shown in the graph, the ECAS series has better voltage smoothing characteristics than “Can” type polymer capacitors because the ECAS series can keep low ESR even at a high frequency range with only a relatively small drop in capacitance. The ECAS series can prevent the rapid voltage drop in CPU supply lines and malfunctions of applications such as PCs.
