Oscilloscopes with HD4096 technology produce clean, crisp waveforms. Shown here is a typical pulse response captured on an 8-bit oscilloscope. No user would look at this signal and think it looked particularly bad. It is very representative of how all pulse responses captured on 8-bit oscilloscopes look. However, in contrast with the same pulse response captured on a 12-bit oscilloscope, the difference is obvious. The waveform has much less noise and appears to be much thinner and crisper. When comparing these two waveforms side by side, it is obvious how much cleaner and crisper the 12-bit waveform is.
