Color LEDs can typically be found in three separate categories: RGB, royal blue and amber. RGB is generally used for color mixing in entertainment or architectural applications. LUXEON Rebel colors have high performance in green, blue, and royal blue selections, making it an ideal choice for color mixing. The five colors available besides RGB allow the user to either mix it up and use a combination such royal blue, red orange and green for a different gamut of color, or add extra channels to broaden the gamut further with combinations such as red-green-blue-amber. Other offerings cannot compete with LUXEON Rebel colors as they are low on flux across the board. Royal blue applications are typically used for ‘remote phosphor’, where the royal blue LED emits light through a separate ‘remote’ piece of phosphor, which fluoresces to create white light for illumination. LUXEON Rebel ES Royal Blue is a good offering for this application as its has higher radiometric flux, wall plug efficiency, and hot/cold factor. Rebel ES royal blue offers higher radiant power in application conditions than competitors’ LEDs, enabling brighter and more efficient remote phosphor designs. PC amber is 20% brighter, and has a color point which is more saturated than the competition’s offerings.
