Some common challengers cannot be put in an apples-to-apples comparison with LUXEON Z due to the flux gain provided by the dome. Instead, the LUXEON Z’s unique package provides much greater value than just high flux. When compared to domed emitters, a big advantage LUXEON Z has is the 2.2mm package. Other LEDs’ large and bulky packages take up to five times the area of one LUXEON Z, resulting in limited flux density and non-uniform color mixing. When used with the appropriate optics, users can achieve three times the amount of center beam candle power with LUXEON Z than with a domed emitter. Using multichip color arrays constricts designs to not only the common RGBW combination, but also limits the choice in both color and flux bins.
