The ST offering of Bluetooth modules is shown on this slide. The first is the SPBT2532 series that is based on the STLC2500DB Bluetooth radio from ST-Ericsson; this series supports the Bluetooth version 2.1 class EDR. The new SPBT2632 series, with an onboard antenna is based on the STLC2690 Bluetooth radio, a long term ST-Ericsson part. The SPBT2632 series is compliant with the latest version of Bluetooth technology, version 3.0. Part number construction will be discussed later in this tutorial, but it is helpful to point out that the suffix identifies the firmware version embedded in the modules. The .AT release supports communication between Bluetooth-enabled devices implementing the Serial Port Profile SPP. The new firmware version, .AT2, also implements the communication based on the SPP profile, plus communication with smartphone through the iAP, iPOD accessory protocol, bridging the Bluetooth modules with the Apple, BlackBerry, and Android devices.
