A number of materials have been proposed for the manufacturing of effective heat spreaders for use in television and display devices. These materials include multilayer diamond, polycrystalline diamond, carbon fiber composites, and engineering ceramics. The key attributes of these materials is that they can significantly reduce the junction temperature, increase the product lifetime and reliability, and give the designer an increased degree of flexibility. The use of engineering ceramic-based heat spreaders is of particular interest due to their excellent thermal, dielectric, mechanical, and economic benefits.
