Murata Power Solutions has extended its UEI15, UEI30 and UEI (50/60) Series of DC/DC converters to give designers greater choice in wide input range, board-mounted DC regulated power. Wide voltage input ranges are becoming more and more important, offering greater flexibility and use in various applications. The 18 ~ 75V input range of the UEI series is based on 24V, 48V and 60V battery plants in use for communications equipment. A 24V plant provides a stable 24V output much of the time, but during brown-outs or power outages, the voltage can drop to 20V. Meanwhile, a 48V plant puts out 52.8V most of the time, but the voltage can fall as low as 36V. Similarly, when these plants are adjusted to periodically equalize the battery cells, a 48V plant may actually deliver 56V or more to the loads. For a 60V plant, the top range is about 72V, or 75V with some margin. For critical applications, and cross functional equipment, it is important for the DC/DC converter to continue to operate in these fluctuating conditions. Furthermore, pin compatible footprints also offer more flexibility for the power system design and layout.
