This slide lists some questions to ask to help determine the right DC/DC solution for an application. It is important to first understand the application and what are the input and output voltage requirements as well as the output power levels. Sometimes more than one input source is available, and could be battery-powered, or from a front end power supply with downstream converters. It is also important to know if the input lines from the source are subject to noise and transients. Also, often choosing a specific physical format, a maximum space, or weight for a converter is required. Finally, the environmental operating conditions, such as temperature and airflow, help to understand the power system’s needs.
