The SHA-3 is a future hash function standard still in development. The algorithm is undergoing a public review process from non-government designers. NIST is overseeing the process and have scheduled the selection of a winning function, which will be given the name SHA-3, in 2012. The table shown on this slide summarizes the main characteristics of the different existing SHA hash function algorithms. Microchip's SAM9G46 and SAM9M11 support SHA-1 and SHA-256, the most widely used SHA hash functions.
