A wide bevel leaves the most mass of material on the leading edge. A semi-flush cutter can therefore cut thicker wire or leads. It has a higher cutting capacity. A semi-flush cutter will resist dulling the longest. Cutters with a semi-flush bevel will leave a prism of material on the workpiece. This prism, or “pinch”, is formed by the concave surface of the beveled edges. Wide bevels cause wide pinches. Cutters with very wide bevels will not cut fine leads.
