Thermistor Application Slide 3
No doubt, the most useful characteristic of thermistors is their very high and predictable resistance versus temperature characteristic. Thermistors are thermally sensitive resistors whose primary function is to exhibit a large and predictable change in electrical resistance when subjected to a corresponding change in their body temperature. Littelfuse’s Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistors exhibit a very large and precise decrease in electrical resistance when subjected to a corresponding increase in their body temperature. Because of their high temperature coefficient of resistance, thermistors provide precise temperature measurement utilizing relatively simple circuitry. The resistance versus temperature characteristic of a typical Littelfuse thermistor is illustrated in the graph above.
