THM-Slide3

This diagram shows how the THM family of products can support 2xMOPP requirements and the higher level of patient protection. On the lower portion in red, the illustration reflects an AC/DC power supply with a 12VDC output. The THM series DC/DC part is shown with a 12VDC input and 5VDC output that is delivering power to the Applied Part portion of the device. With the characteristics previously discussed on the THM series, the Applied Part now has 2xMOPP protection for the patient. Often times the Applied Part will require a <30 Watt low power solution and a different voltage than the main system voltage. Using the THM series DC/DC converters offers additional design flexibility to support the Applied Part requirement of 2xMOPP. At the heart of TRACO’s approach to delivering world-class power solutions for the medical industry is their transformer technology. Developed and honed over a long period, TRACO’s unique approach ensures the required separation and isolation, while achieving sufficient coupling to allow the DC/DC converter to operate efficiently. A low coupling capacitance between the primary and secondary transformer windings is an important aspect of the protection implementation. Values as low as 10-15 picofarads ensure that there is negligible transfer of current across the isolation barrier, providing patient protection in line with the requirements of the IEC-60601.
