In sleep mode, the MCU is disabled but there are still peripherals including the internal oscillator working and consuming power. By disabling the MCU’s internal oscillator circuit and driving the XIN pin directly with the SiT8021, the result is a 7% power savings in normal operating mode, and 18% lower power in sleep mode. The net result is a significantly smaller PCB footprint and lower power than the quartz crystal alternative.
