Another automotive requirement is the ability to survive in a harsh environment containing sulfur. Typically, sulfur and chlorides in the environment can cause a disconnect between silver electrodes. Panasonic has solved this problem by using gold electrodes to create high reliability in harsh environments containing sulfur and chlorine. The graph here shows a typical comparison of failure rate for the Panasonic Anti-Sulfur ERJS06 and the standard ERJ6G thick film chip resistor. As can be seen in the graph, there is a dramatic survival performance enhancement.
