Terms signal
When dealing with attenuation, think of a log flume ride at the amusement park. A certain amount of water is present at the beginning but as the log travels to the bottom, some water splashes out. That loss is similar to attenuation. Attenuation is the loss of signal strength during transmission, resulting in the received signal being lower in strength than the transmitted signal. Attenuation is expressed in decibels (dB) per unit of length. Attenuation increases with frequency and temperature.
