MyMiniRaceCar Challenge
2017-06-19 | By Kevin Walseth
Are you ready to hear the roar of engines and smell burned rubber and Formula racecar exhaust? Well….. in this case, one out of three ain’t bad. The new age Formula cars are going Electric so you will not smell exhaust, nor will you hear much from the engine except maybe the infamous “whining” of the electric motors. But you will get the smell of burning rubber!
With TE being a proud supporter of Andretti Technologies and the Andretti Formula E Team we would like to challenge you to put your engineering to the test and get your car on the track. No, I am not talking about the mini-van in the yard, but more importantly your own #myminiracecar. This mini racecar starts with an Adafruit Feather Bluefruit LE, an Adafruit motor controller wing, a TE connectivity temp and humidity sensor breakout board, and much more. All of this added on a mini robot frame. You could get started with a cool project from Adafruit’s John Park on Maker.io. The project also includes the link to purchase one of these fine pieces of technology. Once this is mastered, it is on to bigger and bolder as you use your own creativity to come up with something that will stand out on the track- both visually and performance-wise. Now all that’s left is to share your car using #myminiracecar. These racecars will be featured on Adafruit’s Show & Tell live July 12th at 7:00pm EST.
Do you want to win one of these great #MyMiniRaceCars? During the week of 6/19 – 6/23 we will be posting videos about the contest at random times throughout social media and giving away a total of 25 of these speed machines. If you win (or not), don’t forget to customize your car and share it on twitter using #myminiracecar for your car to be showcased on Adafruit’s Show & Tell. Here is my attempt to customize based on John Park’s design >>>>>.
Right after Show & Tell on July 12th, Ladyada will host a special guest. This guest will be TE’s Resident Engineer Judith Henzel with Andretti Technologies! Judith and Ladyada will discuss Judith’s role as a part of the Andretti Race Team using TE Connectivity’s technology to create solutions in the harsh environment of racing. These two outstanding women of engineering will also get together just before the weekend race to get a back-door tour of the Andretti Formula E Team’s paddock.
