The NIS3071 is also exceptional at handling short circuit events due to its fast response time over traditional protection solutions such as melting fuses and PTCs. In this slide, a melting fuse, a PTC, and the eFuse were all subjected to a short circuit event when connected to a 600W, 20ADC power supply. The melting fuse performed the worst, experiencing an 80A spike with a moment of excessive power dissipation shortly after. The PTC performed better without the moment of excessive power dissipation but still experienced a very large current spike of 58A due to its slow response. The eFuse performed the best, experiencing a current spike of only 5.9A due to the fast fault response time.
