Shown here are technical notes on the IKVP80ES. It has many security features built-in and is designed for strong security. This is an ideal drive for embedded applications where the user can unlock the drive while it is plugged in. It comes with USB-A and USB-C cables to allow the drive to be plugged into a device with either connector and allows for a PIN or a passphrase up to 64 characters long for enhanced security. A passphrase is designed to be easy to remember yet very secure as brute-force attack protection. It will kick in quickly before an attacker can go through an attack by guessing passwords. Admin can set the drive to Read-Only mode to protect the data from any changes or malware and in embedded applications, this ensures that data loaded onto devices is not altered in any way. Kingston does not officially support bootability, therefore, when a system or device is rebooted, power to the USB connector may be cut. When this happens, the IKVP80ES will immediately lock up. This is by design to protect the data when a drive senses power loss. Depending on the device time to reboot and enumerate attached storage drives, there may or may not be enough time for the user to authenticate and the drive to be connected to the device to become the boot drive. The user would have to test the drive to see if there is enough time to authenticate to use the IKVP80ES as the boot drive.
