Here are examples of typical embedded use cases in different industries. Some are related to specific devices and some have use cases where proprietary data is shared both inside the company as well as outside, like a factory in a different country. In many use cases, electronic sharing of data through a Cloud service or email may be less secure and open to different kinds of attack vs. sending a hardware-encrypted USB drive with layers of protection built-in. Pretty much all embedded customers have use cases where they can transfer data between an engineering system and a device of some kind.
