regulatory
With all the different types of wire and cable products, there is a need for regulation and consumer safety. In the United States the NFPA publishes the NEC which is the minimum national standards for electrical, communications, and electronic cables. UL is an organization that tests electrical devices, systems, and materials to determine if they are hazardous to life and property. UL also defines and publishes standards, classifications, and specifications for electrical materials, devices, construction methods, and systems. CSA International is a similar organization based in Canada.
