Debounce circuitry compensates for contact bounce. What is contact bounce? The moving and fixed contacts in a mechanical encoder are metal. When a pair of contacts is closed, the contacts will come together and bounce off of each other before they come to rest in the closed position. This effect is shown graphically in figure 1. In some digital circuits this can cause false readings. In these cases the customer must incorporate extra hardware or software in their circuit to “de-bounce” the signal. The 62P does not require debounce circuitry.
