The NSD-2101 piezo motor drive ASIC from ams OSRAM was designed to operate with New Scale Technologies, reduced voltage motors such as the SQL-RV-1.8 Squiggle® motor and UTAF™ motors. The small, 1.8mm x 1.8mm, ASIC accepts voltage as low as 2.3 volts DC and requires no boost voltage circuitry. It has a number of innovative technologies built in including Smart Drive Control Technology to automatically optimize performance of the piezo motor over a range of operating conditions. The driver receives serial motion commands via an I²C interface to command the piezo motors such as the SQL-RV-1.8 motor, which in-turn provide a 0.5 micrometer linear position resolution, with a 2.3 volt input and low power consumption.
