The RCA-HP series utilizes technology that is similar to standard thick film series, but there is a significant difference in the design. A standard thick film SMD resistor has a single trimmed resistive element on the top side of the component. The RCA-HP series design has resistive elements on both the top and bottom sides of the ceramic body, which increases the size of the resistive element. The increased resistive area allows for better heat dissipation, leading to higher power rating and much greater pulse handling capabilities since the area of the “hot spot” generated during a surge is not focused on just one resistive element.
