When power is converted, a boost or buck diode is used, like in Switch Mode Power Supplies. The key parameter of power conversion is efficiency. Therefore, power losses must be kept to an absolute minimum. Due to the low forward voltage drop, the SiGe diode is an ideal choice, even more, if high thermal stability is required and the circuit operates under high ambient temperatures. Another example is a SiGe diode used in an ORing application, in which an auxiliary battery is connected to the board net.
