Another important comparison between POL devices is how well do they perform at temperature. This is critical to the discussion of “real” current density since a number of smaller solutions purport to be denser, but de-rate their currents so heavily at elevated temperatures. The charts on this page provide specific examples. On the left is a 6A product, and on the right is a 3A product. The illustrations here show that at higher temperatures these products provide the full rated output current. This is not the case with most commodity products and this is almost never the case with most discrete solutions.
