On this slide additional terms specific to HX3 are defined. These include the Shared Link, which is a proprietary Cypress feature that enables a USB 3.0 port to be split into an internal SuperSpeed port and a standard USB 2.0 port. With shared link, a standard USB 3.0 port can be shared and worked simultaneously between an internal SuperSpeed device and a standard USB 2.0 device. Since every downstream port of the HX3 can be configured for shared link mode, the 4-port USB 3.0 hub can actually provide up to eight ports. Ghost Charge is also a proprietary Cypress feature that enables battery charging on HX3 Downstream port without the need for host connected to the upstream port. A typical use is in a notebook docking station where the USB ports provide charging even when the note book is undocked. HX3 is Cypress’ 4-port USB 3.0 Hub controller. It is USB-IF certified and supports Shared Link and Ghost Charge features. Multiple standard charges are supported, including BC 1.2 and Apple charging standard on all downstream ports. For routing of USB 2.0 traffic, HX3 uses a dedicated transaction translator per port which eliminates sharing of Full Speed bandwidth on downstream ports, providing better user experience. Blaster Plus is Cypress’ software tool that configures the HX3. HX3 is highly configurable, the Vendor ID, Product ID, downstream port configurations, and PHY settings can be customized to meet customer requirements. The configuration setting is stored in an external EEPROM. The Blaster Plus software can program HX3’s external EEPROM directly over USB.
