Consumers today demand mobility and want to be connected 24/7. They want to be able to watch full length movies and play 3-D games from high resolution pocket sized devices without having to worry about short battery life. As a result, mobile devices need to improve their power efficiency with each new product cycle. In order to accomplish this, NXP has focused on improving processor architecture to increase performance while maintaining the same or even lower power consumption. From the transistor-level to memory accesses, software builds and power saving modes, innovative thinking and engineering has resulted in what the industry recognizes as Smart Speed Technology. Smart Speed technology is about finding the perfect balance between performance and power consumption. This is done through design techniques such as using dual voltage transistors and through architectural features such integrated cache, vector floating point co-processor and hardware accelerators.
