Isolated DC-DC Converter Design Considerations Slide 4

Input overvoltage can be caused by a fuse blowing or a lightning pulse. When a short circuit or other failure causes the DC/DC module input side fuse to blow, the input voltage may rise to a very high level due to the cable inductance. A lightning pulse may bypass AC/DC frontend converter and be applied to the input of the DC/DC module.
