BQ27427 System-Side Impedance Track™ Single-Cell Battery Fuel Gauge

Texas Instruments' BQ27427 is a single-cell battery fuel gauge that requires minimal user-configuration and system microcontroller (MCU) firmware development, leading to a quick system bring-up. The three preprogrammed chemistry profiles minimize user configuration and help manage customer inventory across projects with different battery chemistries. The battery fuel gauge has very low sleep power consumption leading to longer battery runtime. The configurable interrupts can save system power and free up the host from continuous polling. The device supports accurate temperature sensing via an external thermistor.

The BQ27427 uses the patented Impedance Track™ algorithm for fuel gauging and provides information such as the remaining battery capacity (mAh), state-of-charge (SOC), and battery voltage (mV). Battery fuel gauging with this device requires connections only to PACK+ (P+) and PACK- (P-) for a removable battery pack or an embedded battery circuit. The tiny 9-ball, 1.62 mm x 1.58 mm, 0.5 mm pitch NanoFree™ chip-scale package (DSBGA) makes the fuel gauge ideal for space-constrained applications.
