The Altera C-Series development kit is designed with MIPI, DisplayPort, and a Raspberry Pi HAT connector
The Agilex™ 3 FPGA C-Series development kit from Altera is a small form factor, power-efficient board targeting embedded design applications, such as industrial, surveillance, retail, consumer, video, and medical.
The development kit comes in a tabletop form factor with an optional PCIe 3.0 x 1 daughter card and Ethernet daughter card (sold separately). This development kit comes with a robust set of connectivity options like LPDDR4 memory, MIPI camera interface, DisplayPort video, Raspberry HAT, and PMOD headers are provided to support their respective ecosystems of add-on cards. The board is powered through USB Type-C® PD and has an onboard USB Blaster 3 programming option. It can be used in a wide range of applications, including video imaging, I/O expansion, analog interface control, stepper motor control, interface bridging, power management control, and configuration and initialization control, all while leveraging low power.
This development kit allows:
- Development and testing of design connectivity to additional peripherals and devices through Raspberry Pi 4/5 HAT (hardware attached on top) add-on boards
- Testing of the design’s MIPI interface with camera modules for embedded vision and camera sensor capture and display, supporting D-PHY V2.5, enabling CSI-2, and DSI-2 protocols
- Testing of design interface with a line of small I/O interface boards that allow sensitive signal conditioning circuits and high-power drive circuits to be placed where they are most effective, near sensors and actuators through the Pmod connector
- Developing and testing video and vision designs through the DisplayPort connectors provided on the board
- Configuring the FPGA by using the onboard USB Blaster 3 or through the JTAG header
- Reuse of the kit’s board layout and schematic to accelerate designs
- An immeditae start with a free version of Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software, an intuitive high-performance design tool that supports design entry, synthesis, optimization, verification, and simulation
The kit comes with a complete kit installation package that includes the following:
- Board design files, including schematics, layout, assembly drawing, bill of materials, and Gerber files
- User guide
- Golden Top project for pinout assignments management
- Example designs, leveraging memory, transceiver, and FPGA configuration
- Board test system (BTS) to test the functionality of this board
- 2x LPDDR4 2GB (x32 component soldered)
- User LEDs, DIP switches, and a pushbutton
