Previous quick disconnect receptacles were basically a one time use. Once mated, it was difficult to unmate the terminal and often resulted in destroying the receptacle and/or the tab. Then once mated again, the receptacle had little to no retention. The designer, understanding that there are times where service calls or even assembly may require to mate a connection more than once, created an interface that is robust, yet gentle on mating tabs. These receptacles fully meet their specifications on the sixth insertion, not just the first one. The insertion force and unmating force remains relatively constant for at least 6 mating cycles. Both the receptacle and tab remain fully functional through six insertion/disconnection cycles. This supports applications where assembly operations or field repairs might require disconnection and reconnection.
