Next is an overview of the RL78 family’s 10-bit AD converter features. Six to 26 input channels are available across the family of devices. Each AD conversion operation generates an interrupt, calling an interrupt service routine, and may also trigger a DMA. Several modes are available; for example Select Mode or Scan Mode, hardware or software triggering, and single shot or sequential conversions. An internal reference voltage is provided together with the option to measure the internal temperature sensor voltage and unused AD inputs can be used as I/O ports instead. Programmable limits are implemented to exit snooze mode or perform other comparator functionalities. The AD converter register can be accessed directly by the DMA to have fast conversions in scan mode. Additional diagnostic functions are also included.
