The table in this slide highlights the differences between the LT3799 and alternative offline LED drivers. The other offline alternatives which offer isolation come from solutions which require two to three times as many external components and require an optocoupler for the LED regulation and/or protection features. Additionally, the LT3799’s internal active power factor correction offers a PFC >0.97 compared to a PFC of only 0.90 for most competing passive designs. This high PFC design also reduces harmonic content in high brightness LED applications. The LT3799 uses a unique current sensing scheme to offer ±5% accurate LED current regulation without using an optocoupler, further minimizing the size and complexity of the solution footprint.
