This slide gives a more detailed comparison between EDC and EDS coin cell supercaps and conventional electrolytics. Because they are EDLCs, their storage capacity per unit volume is many times greater than conventional electrolytics; even electrolytics that are physically larger. Supercapacitors are based on a carbon nanotube technology, and effectively create a very large surface area with an extremely small separation distance between ions. From an application standpoint, this construction provides very long-term charge/discharge performance.
