Isolated Wide-Range DC-DC Converters

Murata Power Solutions' UEI30 isolated wide-range DC/DC converters deliver a full 30 W output power from a board area of just 1.8 in². The UEI30 gives tightly regulated, fixed output voltages of 5 V_DC and a 4:1 input of 18 V_DC to 75 V_DC. A synchronous rectifier forward topology helps the UEI30 Series achieve high efficiency levels of up to 91% and minimal heat build-up allowing operation without cooling fans.

Overview

The UEI 30 W Series includes full magnetic and optical isolation up to 2250 V_DC (basic insulation). For connection to digital systems, the outputs offer fast settling to current step loads and tolerance of higher capacitive loads. Excellent ripple and noise specifications assure compatibility to circuits using CPU's, ASIC's, programmable logic and FPGA's. No minimum load is required. For systems requiring controlled start-up and shutdown, an external switch, transistor or digital logic may be used to activate the remote On/Off control. Remote sense inputs compensate for resistive line drops at high currents.

A wealth of self-protection features help to avoid both converter and external circuit problems. These features include: input under-voltage lockout, over-temperature shutdown, output over-voltage, and reverse conduction elimination.
