MnO2 capacitors have a recommended derating of 50% up to 105°C then additional derating above 105°C. Polymers, on the other hand, have a recommended derating of 10% for voltage less than or equal to 10 V and 20% for voltages greater than or equal to 16 V up to 105°C then additional derating beyond 105°C. The derating guidelines give the polymer a few additional advantages over MnO2. The polymer is able to be used with smaller footprint in the same capacitance, higher capacitance in the same footprint, higher capacitance in a smaller capacitance or the same footprint and capacitance with a lower profile.
