The defacto standard connector for Ethernet, is the RJ45. For industrial Ethernet, there are a variety of ruggedized RJ45’s. In addition, the automation industry has historically used small 8 and 12mm circular connectors for analog sensing and low voltage power. Similar connector families have evolved for use in digital networking, such as the M12 varieties that will be discussed in this presentation. Finally, with the push to 10Gbps speeds, the use of optical fibers is supported by the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards.
