The importance of low ESR and high Q value can be understood by considering power dissipation. Power is the product of the current going through the capacitor squared and the effective series resistance of the capacitor. If the resistance (ESR) increases, the power dissipated in the capacitor will increase because they are directly proportional to each other. This can result in lower amplifier gain, lower efficiency and instability over varying temperatures.
