Switch components are normally chosen to optimize a switch for a specific end use. A couple of the key factors influencing the choice of options are the amount of space the switch will occupy and the amount of space that will be available during mounting. This will determine whether the switch will be front or rear mount, the size of the bushing, bezel and the actuator, the actuator profile and the bezel style. In regards to the environment the switch will be operated in, harsh environments require sturdier overall construction and materials that have an ability to withstand vibration, wear and tear, humidity, chemicals and/or frequent high pressure washes. In standard environments, light weight, cost effective components are possible. The electrical load needed to be carried determines what contact materials are appropriate. Considering application visibility, in dimly lit environments or those in which high visibility is critical, the choice of illumination, markings and the actuator size and color can all help to increase visibility. Finally, the functionality required of the switch itself will determine the wiring, the number and type of terminals.
