MAX-M10 Series GNSS Modules

u-blox's MAX-M10 series are ultra-low-power GNSS receivers for high-performance asset tracking devices

Image of u-blox's MAX-M10 Series u-blox's MAX-M10 series is built on the ultra-low-power u-blox M10 GNSS platform, which provides exceptional sensitivity and acquisition times for all L1 GNSS (global navigation satellite systems). The extremely low power consumption of the module is less than 25 mW in continuous tracking mode, allowing excellent power autonomy for all battery-operated devices, such as asset trackers, without compromising GNSS performance.

The MAX-M10 supports concurrent reception of four GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou). The high number of visible satellites enables the receiver to select the best signals, which provides better performance at a lower power cost and maximizes the position availability under challenging conditions, such as deep urban canyons.

u-blox Super-S technology offers great RF sensitivity and can improve the dynamic position accuracy by up to 25% with small antennas or in a non-line-of-sight scenario.

The MAX-M10 series detects jamming and spoofing events and reports them to the host so the system can react to them. Advanced filtering algorithms mitigate the impact of RF interference and jamming, enabling the product to operate as intended.

The MAX-M10 series supports CloudLocate GNSS, a cloud-based location service to reduce power consumption with less than 10 seconds on-time. u-blox M10 supports compact messages of 12 bytes, 20 bytes, or 50 bytes, which allows the service to be used even with bandwidth-limited connectivity.

The MAX-M10S-00B module integrates an LNA followed by a SAW filter in the RF path for maximum sensitivity in passive antenna designs. It contains a TCXO and supports 1.8 V and 3 V input voltage.

The MAX-M10M-00B offers a cost and power-optimized setup without LNA and SAW filter. It contains an XTAL oscillator, supports a wide input voltage range from 1.8 V to 5.5 V, and saves up to 9 mW power compared to MAX-M10S-00B.

Each module is backward pin-to-pin compatible with previous u-blox generations, which saves designers time and cost when upgrading their designs. This makes migration to the newer design faster and low cost while gaining the many unique performance features it offers.

A comparison of the older series to the M10 family of products is shown below. u-blox encourages customers to use the MAX-M10 series for new designs. Those customers using older series designs are encouraged to upgrade to the MAX-M10 as the supply of older products becomes more constrained.

The EVK-M101 evaluation kit is excellent for evaluating the performance of u-blox M10 positioning technology and comes in a small, rugged metal housing. The 14-pin front connector gives access to all chip interface pins and allows current measurements. Users' application boards can interface with the embedded u-blox M10 chip through the SPI or I2C bus. The kit includes u-center 2 PC software for configuration, testing, visualization, and data analysis of u-blox GNSS products. u-center 2 provides useful assistance during all phases of a system integration project.

The XPLR-IOT-1 explorer kit is a ready-to-use development platform with key IoT components and services for many different use cases and applications. The explorer kit includes the MAX-M10S, cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® technology, and cloud communications services.
