Protect circuits from overcurrent and overvoltage conditions with a resettable Toshiba eFuse IC

Suitable for use in a wide range of industrial applications, home appliances, office automation equipment, and battery-powered IoT sensor devices, Toshiba’s eFuse IC series provides short-circuit and adjustable overcurrent protection, and an adjustable inrush current slew rate. In addition, the series features a thermal shutdown capability, a fixed overvoltage clamp, and in conjunction with an external MOSFET (in the case of TCKE8xx) and built-in FET (in the case of TCKE712BNL), reverse current blocking. By incorporating a Toshiba eFuse into designs, engineers can simplify the task of ensuring that their products meet requirements stipulated by international safety standards such as IEC/UL62368-1 and UL2367.

The overcurrent and under input voltage of the TCKE8xx and TCKE712BNL series can be adjusted by the use of external resistors. The under voltage setting is achieved by using a two-resistor ladder, with a maximum supply input voltage of 18 VDC (TCKE8xx) and 13.2 VDC (TCKE712BNL). The overcurrent clamp is set using a single resistor. For more information regarding the short-circuit features and current clamp accuracy, please refer to the datasheet. TCKE8xx and TCKE712BNL have a fast short-circuit protection of 150 ns and 320 ns respectively.

The Toshiba TCKE805 is designed for 5 V power rail applications and has a fixed output overvoltage clamp setting of 6.04 V. The TCKE812 suits 12 V designs and clamps at 15.1 V. The TCKE800 has no overvoltage clamp function.

The Toshiba TCKE712BNL is a latch-type only eFuse which performs reverse current blocking using a built-in FET and has an overcurrent protection by external resistance (OCP) of 0.51 A to 3.65 A +20%. The current limit setting range varies based on VIN operation. In addition, it has a FLAG function on output (ON when EN is “high”).
