i6A Series DC/DC Converters

TDK-Lambda announces the introduction of the 250 W i6A series of non-isolated DC/DC converters. Capable of operating from an input voltage of 9 V to 53 V, the step-down converter delivers an output voltage that is adjustable from 3.3 V up to 40 V and output currents of up to 20 A.

The converters come in a 1/16^th brick form factor measuring 33 mm x 22.9 mm x 12.7 mm. They can be used in conjunction with a single output 12 V_DC, 24 V_DC, or 48 V_DC power supply to generate additional regulated high current outputs, with or without battery backup. The open-frame, compact design features a low profile and weight, allowing for extremely flexible and robust manufacturing processes. The ultra-high efficiency allows for a high useable output power even in demanding thermal environments.

With efficiencies of up to 98%, power losses are minimized, allowing the products to operate in harsh, ambient temperatures of -40°C to +125°C, even with low-airflow requirements. The need for external output capacitance is reduced due to an optimized dynamic voltage response, thus reducing board space requirements. The i6A series utilizes a low component count that results in both a low-cost structure and a high level of performance.

The basic feature models include an output voltage adjustment pin, positive or negative logic remote on-off, remote sense, input under-voltage, overcurrent, and thermal protection. Full feature models are equipped with a power-good signal, output voltage sequencing, and the ability to synchronize the operating frequency to minimize system noise. All models are certified to IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1, 60950-1 and carry the CE and UKCA marks for the Low Voltage and RoHS directives.
