Image of Talema's Segmented Core Cap Medical Transformer Talema's patented design uses segmented core caps to support primary and secondary windings in alternate sectors to reduce leakage current. Several modular segments join together to form core caps for covering and a toroidal core. The core cap modules insulate windings from the core and allow for double-wall insulation between adjacent windings, significantly reducing leakage current compared to conventional toroidal transformers.

Segment cap transformers also reduce heat rise by typically +13°C to +17°C compared to standard toroidal transformer construction. UL approved to UL60601-1, ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, CAN/CSA C22.2 No 601.1 M90, and CSA C22.2 NO. 60601-1.
