The board, which is part of the STM32 Open Development Environment, includes 3 kV optocouplers to insulate the interface with the microcontroller on a separate NUCLEO-F401RE or NUCLEO-G431RB development board via Arduino™ UNO R3 connectors.

The system can be stacked with a second expansion board for dual 0.5 A channel digital output module or single 0.5 A channel safety digital output module development. It can also be stacked with a sister X-NUCLEO-OUT08A1 expansion board for dual 2 A channel output current development.
